Experimental Modeling of Diamond Resorption during Mantle Metasomatism

چکیده

The morphology of resorbed diamond crystals is a valuable source information on the composition and ascent rate kimberlite magmas, as well possible redox conditions in protolith. Previously, resorption was thoroughly investigated at P–T–fO2 parameters magma ascent. In this study, we using unaltered group I model carbonatite that are typical peridotite magmas subcontinental lithospheric mantle. An analysis previous studies made it to determine octahedron transformation into spherical tetrahexahedron depending carbonate–silicate melt. It shown 6.3 GPa increases all systems fO2 temperature rise. There steady decrease pressure from 1 GPa. comparison experimentally produced samples with natural diamonds indicative significant contribution metasomatic alteration protolith by oxidized agent initial stages diamonds.

Subducted carbonates, metasomatism of mantle wedges, and possible connections to diamond formation: An example from California

We investigated calcite globules and veins in two spinel-garnet peridotite xenoliths from the subSierra Nevada mantle. The studied xenoliths were entrained in a Miocene (11 Ma) volcanic plug. These carbonates are associated spatially with silicate glass inclusions, suggesting that they are primary inclusions—inclusions that formed at high temperature in the mantle and not at or close to the Ear...

Oceanic slab melting and mantle metasomatism.

Modern plate tectonic brings down oceanic crust along subduction zones where it either dehydrates or melts. Those hydrous fluids or melts migrate into the overlying mantle wedge trigerring its melting which produces arc magmas and thus additional continental crust. Nowadays, melting seems to be restricted to cases of young (< 50 Ma) subducted plates. Slab melts are silicic and strongly sodic (t...

Role of saline fluids in deep-crustal and upper-mantle metasomatism: insights from experimental studies

Chloride-rich brines are increasingly recognized as playing an important role in high pressure and temperature metamorphic and magmatic systems. The origins of these saline multicomponent fluids are debated, but experimental evidence suggests that regardless of their origin they must be important agents of rock alteration and mass transfer wherever they occur. Studies of the solubility of quart...

Large-scale mantle metasomatism: a Re^Os perspective

There is a debate on the behavior of Re and Os during mantle metasomatism. Some argue that the mantle can acquire high 187Os/188Os (0.15 to s 1.0) either directly from metasomatic events or by the growth of 187Os from 187Re over time. However, any suggestions of subduction-related Os metasomatism producing whole-scale elevation of the mantle to 187Os/188Os values greater than 0.15 need to be su...
